On July 17th four brave boys from the Club took part in the 2011 Open Water Champioships at Whitlingham Outdoor Education Centre in Norwich. Swimmers could compete in either 800m, 1500m, 3km or 5km events.

Matthew Thompson was competing in his 2nd event, whislt for brother Alex, Jeremy Dobson & Alex Garrett it was their first experience of an Open water swim. The weather was showery and the water temperature a chilly 18 degrees, but all the boys swam incredibly well and achieved excellent placings.
The full results and timings were as follows....
Alex T - 22:40:79 (800m 11-12 yrs) came 5th in Essex and 10th/11 overall in Region Matt T - 24:03:75 (1500m 13-16yrs) came 5th in Essex and 16th/32 overall in Region Jeremy - 30:45:92 (1500m 13-16yrs) came 9th in Essex and 25th/32 overall in Region Alex G - 30:56:88 (1500m 13-16yrs) came 10th in Essex and 26th/32 overall in Region
The championship is usually held around July time each year, so hopefully next year we can get an even bigger turn-out from the club (and maybe even some girls!!)
